Waterproof Wiring Connectors

Heat Shrink Tubes
Heat shrink tubing is a flexible thermoplastic material that can be used to encase wires and cables. It is available in a wide range of sizes and colors to match different applications. It is easy to use and offers electrical insulation as well as mechanical protection. When applied correctly, it creates a water-tight seal that protects against most liquids and even corrosive substances.
To choose the right size, determine the diameter of the cable you need to encase. Each type of heat shrink tubing comes with a defined ratio that indicates how much it will shrink when heated. For example, a tube with a ratio of 2:1 will shrink to half its original size. It is also important to note that the ratio refers to the expanded diameter of the tubing, not its shrunken form.
There are a few different types of heat shrink tubing to choose from, including polyolefin, PVC, Viton, and neoprene. Some tubing also features an adhesive liner to help it stay in place once applied.
Before you apply a heat shrink tube, make sure that all power is disconnected and the area is free of dirt or dust. Then, cut the tubing to about 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) longer than the section of the cable you need to cover. This extra length will ensure that the insulator covers all exposed areas and makes a tight seal.
Electrical Tape

It’s also often UL listed, meaning it has undergone a series of tests and meets stringent safety standards.
A good rule of thumb is to apply half-lapped layers, which means a double layer of tape covering the connection. This provides a stronger, more reliable bond, and ensures that no gaps or cracks will form. It’s also important to select the right type of tape for the job. For example, if the connection will be subject to heat, choose a rubber or PVC electrical tape that is heat-resistant.
If you’re working outdoors, consider using gel-filled wire connectors to help keep out moisture. These twist-on connectors feature a gel inside the nut that can help to keep out moisture, while allowing electricity to flow freely.
