Cold Rolled High Carbon Steel Spring Steel Strip
Cold rolled high carbon steel spring steel strip is an ideal choice for applications where precise dimensions and surface finish are important. It has a better-looking finish than hot rolled steel which reduces the need for paint and plating.
It can be supplied in the annealed condition or hardened and tempered depending on end-use component design and fabrication methods. It is ideal for making clips and fasteners.
Strength
The tensile strength of Cold rolled high carbon steel spring steel strip is very good, and can withstand great amounts of pressure. It is much stronger than mild steel, and has a higher yield strength. This means that it can be bent or twisted without breaking, and it is less likely to crack.
The strength of this type of steel is also enhanced by heat treatment. This Cold rolled high carbon steel spring steel strip can be done by carburizing or nitriding, which increases its resistance to corrosion and wear. It is also possible to harden the metal by heating it very hot for a long time, and then quenching it quickly.
While most people think of this material as being used for springs, it has many general uses. Clamps, nails, screws, saw blades, and scrapers all use this type of steel, and it is found in many other tools as well.
Cold rolled high carbon steel is usually produced on a single stand cold rolling mill, and then it is reduced to its final thickness through the process of roll slitting. It is often pickled and oiled as well, which helps to maintain the quality of the product. A wide variety of gauges and widths are available, and the product can be made to a customer’s exact specifications. It is available in both annealed and hardened and tempered forms.
Corrosion Resistance
Cold rolled high carbon steel spring strip can be used to make clips and fasteners. Its elasticity and strength makes it ideal for creating clips that hold tightly together or fasteners that hold heavy loads without breaking. Its corrosion resistance also makes it an excellent choice for use in harsh environments.
Alloyed carbon steels contain additions of elements such as chromium, manganese, molybdenum, nickel and vanadium to improve their properties. This often increases their strength, hardness, ductility and corrosion resistance. Alloyed carbon steels are more expensive than unalloyed carbon steels.
Tempering a steel is a process that alters its crystal lattice structure by reheating it to just below its eutectoid point, then quenching it. The resulting metal, Hardened & Tempered Steel Strip Supplier called martensite, is stronger and harder than the original steel. It is used to produce blades, swords, tools and construction equipment.
HSLA strip, or high strength low alloy strip, is made by converting hot rolled steel using a unique cold reduction process that gives it the combination of strength and ductility needed for roll forming and stamping applications. Our knowledge and experience allow us to deliver HSLA strip that meets your exact specifications. The product is coiled or oscillate coiled for delivery, frequently interleaved with paper or other material to prevent friction between the steel and itself, and is then sealed with oil or some other rust prevention solution.
Durability
The annealed condition of cold-rolled high carbon steel spring steel strip allows it to be bent, twisted and compressed without losing its shape. This ability to regain its original form after being put under stress is one of the reasons this type of metal is used in flat springs, dowel pins and other industrial applications that require the ability to endure significant bending and twisting. It can also be hardened and tempered through heat treatment or through a process called work hardening–the repeated physical hammering, rolling, drawing or other types of deformation that can increase the hardness of the material.
This hardened and tempered form of spring steel can be produced to a variety of different tensile strengths/hardnesses depending on the specific component-manufacturing processes and end uses involved. However, spring steels are most commonly produced in the softer/annealed condition and hardened as part of a subsequent process called heat treating or quenching.
During the heat treating/quenching process the hot rolled steel is heated to just above its critical temperature and then quickly cooled to a lower temperature range (typically about 250° F). This rapid cooling helps create the crystalline structure that gives the metal its strength and durability, and it also increases its yield strength and ductility. The resulting material is then slit into strips for use. Depending on the application and the type of packaging requested, this can be done in either oscillated wound coils or ribbon wound coils.
Finish
The material can be supplied in an annealed condition or hard cold-rolled, or pre-hardened and tempered depending on the end-use component design. Upon hardening, it has a martensite grain structure and has a tensile strength of up to 1890 MPa. It can be used to make a wide variety of products such as flat springs, dowel pins, automotive clutch plates, cutting blades and agricultural implements, among many other applications.
Pianos wouldn’t be the same without spring steel and if you love your guitar strings you probably have some too because those are made from this same material. It is also used in jousting armor, and while the spring steel may be more expensive than mild steel armour it will last much longer.
